about

"Valleys" is a song that will more than likely be remade. It was recorded during the same sessions as "In View of Birth", along with 6 other tracks, but I ultimately decided to cut it from the album. The reason it was cut is simple. I wanted the album to be a black metal album and there was no room for a song like this on a black metal album, as bleak sounding as it may try to be. I intend to stop working on Shroud of Despondency when the aforementioned full length is released so "Valleys" will more than likely be the first song I work on with a post SOD folk band of some kind. I like this version and it was very much an exercise in automatic writing. Very little effort (or tuning) went into this song but a lot of effort went into making it "listenable." I damn near stayed in key at the end as well.

lyrics

There are only valleys, more valleys
The hills are all back allies
Flattened by the shadows that hover over the brightness
Life had its moments, its comforts
What remains is coldness and hurt
Flattened by the actions that make one confess
Flattened by the actions that make one confess
Dust angels, old dreams
The skeleton of belief
Morphed into a corpse
That once walked on two feet
Still these angels, these shadows, wont let us be.
