Virtue vitiates the infected ones Obfuscates the brightest suns The gas that erodes all masks The punishment overdue The signs of bleak times and their symbols of death The yearning for something new With silence or words, the instinctive urge More potent than how its construed The great culling will eventually manifest physically The open pits that become graves The soil that never fills them in The smell of dead hope amidst laughter and joy Not long before it all has been With silence or words, the instinctive urge Stronger than any sin Blocked by soil and soot A sun's rays never reaching the ground Firestorms come first Then coldness and darkness all around Torrents of smoke reduce most to shadow All became death, all destroyed worlds No real motive, nothing to unfurl Only instinct is real The great culling first manifested philosophically Not one clear voice in charge Ideologues, fanatics, and paranoia at large Scattered across all hearts Proclivities to discharge An end that never starts Instincts of falling stars

We all desire to smell the blood of a predator that has become prey Cull We all pray for satisfaction at the expense of someone in the way Cull-it hardly weighs on our conscience We lust for the sight of decay We lust for the sight of decay We lust for the sight of decay We lust for the sight of decay Entropy It all festers and rots with the flesh of the gods It all festers and rots with the flesh of the gods In accordance with the instincts of those who developed the need The sickly bodies that first purported the world of belief We are the falling leaves and the seeds In accordance with entropy What to do with the brother born with broken bones? What, now that the placenta has attracted the beast? Beasts His luck not his mother's He survived the birthing And it is upon her flesh the monster will first feast It is upon her flesh the monster will first feast Cover the smell with dirt, bury the body deep Put brother out of his misery Cover the smell with dirt, bury the body deep Put brother out of his misery Cull.

A lot of these professional mommies, boy, they think there’s nothing better than having a baby. Oh, they think it’s the biggest thing in the world like it’s a big event, having a baby. I call it pumping out a unit. That’s all they’re doing. That’s all they’re doing. Pumping out a fucking unit. Ba-boom. Ba-boom. Like some of them like assembly lines like a factory. Ba-ba-boom. Every fucking year, ba-ba-boom. “Hey, Jeff, want a kid?” Ba-ba-boom. “How about twins?” Ba-ba-boom, ba-ba-boom. Polluting the earth. Polluting the earth with these creatures who have no future. They have no future. Have you pictured what this planet is going to be like in 40 to 50 years? It’s going to be a big smoking ball of shit, a big, smoking, flaming, stinking ball of gaseous shit. That’s what’s going to happen. That’s what’s going to happen. It’s irresponsible to have more than one child. Have one. Have one child, replacement value for yourself, that’s all. Don’t even replace your husband. Don’t replace your husband. No. He’s done enough fucking damage as it is. -George Carlin

I worship entropy Birds that have fallen, a ghost I can't see The yearning bestowed by a rotting something And all its memories They're not taken lightly These nightmarish moments of flightlessness We all dive at the ground in unity But we never stop there We repeat(repeat all lyrics) The ground consumes wings, grows trees that break in the wind The winds spread disease, strip skin while carrying seed Somewhere in the cycle the soil is poisoned And bigger birds make way with their feast

Made me conflate, made me lie, made me choke out my instincts Made them ablate, made me deny, made me ashamed to think Made me indistinct I watched it grow, survive all attempts to winnow Then I doubted I could sustain It wanted my mind, this friendliest of foes Conquered rationality to corrode my brain At it's genesis I felt my strongest I let it in so I had something to play with Didn't realize its game was conquest Or that emotion was its scythe Didn't realize its game was conquest Or that emotion was its scythe Moral contortionist Fervor extortionist The coldness of nature manifest as benevolence Empathic diversionist All metamorphosis uses truth to abort your prevalence I felt it decrease, forced it to beg of me But the shame of retreat will make it advance again A natural state attacking a natural state The natural state of the animals men call men Seek a bridge over and under man We all must cull To walk free upon this land We all must cull Cull Sample 1-The population of the world is now growing by nearly 80 million a year. One in a half million a week. A quarter of a million a day. Ten thousand an hour. Growing. In this country it's projected to grow by ten million in the next 22 years. All these people, in this country and worldwide, rich or poor, need and deserve food, water, energy, and space. Will they be able to get it?-David Attenborough Attenborough is sampled over a donkey cull in Australia. Sample 2-There's only one way to cap a population: By deciding who is able to live, and who, for the good of all, must die.

The thing that eats me also dies Everything a subject to time Everything but the human mind Where nothing is a subject of time The thing that eats me also dies Strength for a moment in time I will know his, he will know mine Prey mentality in my mind The thing that eats me also dies With or without my sickness Everything rots with a quickness When given an expanse of time The thing that eats me also dies Carnivorous is life's intent He who tastes it can't be content With starving aside the pride The thing that eats me also dies(x4) Consecutive epochs blur at the edges Morph into each other before falling apart Remnants build recurrence Updated versions make versions of ledges So new models can jump at the start Landing atop new caving grounds Coalesced at the center of linear history Unknowable, untraceable truths Radiants of recurrence manipulate progress Put new necks in the old noose

I, in the stomach of the wolf Self, in the womb of a dying mother The void that is your right to happiness One, as the fruit that has been pulled Self, in the semen of spiteful fathers You only want more where you should have less Your cries unheard by all ears not your own Annoyance to the one that leaves your bones Joy, in the shit left on the ground Safe, as the footprints that reveal your pace Beast of prey wanted to close in on you Joy, in the stifling of your last sounds Smug, as the fear upon your dying face Beast of prey disregarded what you know Your cries unheard by al ears not your own Annoyance to the one that leaves your bones Right to life ends in death, right to life ends in death We're all made of meat Right to life ends in death, right to life ends in death We all need to eat Right to life ends in death, right to life ends in death We're all made of meat Right to life ends in death, right to life ends in death We all need to eat Eat the young Eat the weak Eat the animal who protects the meek Beast of prey Had his day Internalized Creates new ways Sink into the fact there is a predator at your back Sink into the fact there is a predator at your back It eats the young Eats the frail And feeds upon the alpha male Beast of prey Had its day Internalized Creates new ways Get comfortable with the way you take down your prey Take down your prey Your cries unheard by all ears not your own Your cries unheard by all ears not your own You've been culled Again and again You've been culled Again and again You've been culled Again and again You've been culled Again and again

about

This is the first Shroud of Despondency album with real drums since 2014. It was created differently than all previous albums. Instead of writing everything, I decided I wanted to play drums and let Blemberg bring some riffs to the table. We rehearsed as a two piece. Then I wrote the melodies, leads, and intros in the studio. It was a collaborative effort that we wrote over 3 months and recorded over another 2. We wanted nothing to be polished and everything to be audible. We want nothing to do with modern mastering techniques nor the current trend of overproducing every album.

Our blast beats are imperfect. Our production is raw and reflects the themes in our music. Our process is open to failure, shittiness, experimentation, and capturing individual moments. For this release, we limited our influences and conversations to a slightly different set of bands than on previous albums. Megadeth, Coroner, Virus, Emperor, and Horna were our main frames of reference. We wanted to create our brand of avant-garde black/thrash.

I like to keep music apolitical. I chose to explore the concepts of overpopulation, depopulation, and individual weakness. Still, it was impossible to avoid being influenced by the current political landscape. The idea of group identitiy, in particular, could not be avoided while I was writing. So, if I'm being honest about all aspects, the first part of the title track was written while entranced by contempt for the radical left. The second part of the title track was influenced by my well developed contempt for the radical right. Ultimately, I'm disgusted by any human being who develops the need to participate in either thought process.

There are moments that do not represent the totality of my beliefs. They were, however, vomited out as an attempt to further learn to handle people with dignity and respect. This, in spite of the ever persistent(and occasionally pervasive) thought that there are too many human beings on the planet. Balancing extremes quickly became the philosophical theme of "Cull." If I could state that in less of a cliched manner, I would.

Cheers
